september linky and giveaway!

It's scary, how the months are just flying by! We're at the end of September and it's time for our monthly link-up at "In the Picture" again. Our theme this month was "New Perspective"--I encouraged everyone to try something new, to shake up the routine a little bit.

For me, that meant trying some layering with my iPhone self-portraits. I've done a little bit of this in the past, but I really focused on it with my last few selfies and got some practice using some of my blending apps like Superimpose and Blender.

Whisper to a scream.

The layers I'm using are photos that I take of birds in the sky, clouds, shadows on the ground, walls... really any interesting texture I see these days I stop and take a photo. You never know when it might come in handy to add a layering effect.

blue is such a cold shelter.

As usual, it looks like you guys had some fun this month too! Here are a few of my favorite shots from our flickr pool...

My creation
1. A new perspective, 2. Unbalanced Aged, 3. Dual, 4. Drops

So, we are doing a giveaway today--and all you have to do is link up with one of your self-portraits for a chance to win. Yes, it's been a little quiet around here as this project forges on, and I am trying to lure you back!! The linky will stay open until Thursday, 10/4 at 11pm EST. I will announce the winner on Friday, 10/5 along with our October theme.

I am giving away a beautiful, 6.25" x 8.25" hardcover journal that I got from Paper Coterie. It features one of my iPhone flower images and has the text "my musings" on the front cover, and it has lined pages inside.

As a reminder...here are our usual linky rules:
  • Please link back to the permalink for your {In The Picture} blog post or flickr image, not just the general url for your blog or flickr stream.
  • Linked entries must be to a blog post or flickr image of your recent self-portraits, not just any old photo. Your photo does not have to relate to the optional monthly theme, but it does need to be a self-portrait. Links will be moderated and removed if they do not comply with this rule, sorry :)
  • Please do link back here to my blog either through a text link, or with my button found below to help encourage others to participate and add to our group.
  • And most importantly, be the encouragement you hope to receive and help build our self-portrait community! Please try to visit a few of the links of your fellow {In The Picture} participants and leave a nice comment--it only takes a few minutes and you may be inspired by what you see :)

OK that's it. To repeat, the linky will stay open until Thursday, October 4th. Link up with of your self-portraits anytime between now and then for a chance to win the giveaway. If you are new here, you can get caught up on this page. It's not too late to join the project! Good luck!

Looove your pics and the others as well - I feel that I should attend class about what I can and can´t do with my iPhone... I have no clue of anything but how to use Instagram and the filters that are an option there - how do you do what you´ve done with these pics?

No enticement needed, tho that giveaway looks really lovely.
I love the direction your selfies are taking and I see such incredible growth in the things you are crIeating. I too like layering, but my stuff gets really bizarre. You say you're looking for textures-great idea. The fence addition-I like that result.
Have a great weekend Christy and so glad you are doing this. It's been a great journey and there's still time. : )

I love the layers and the effect. I've done the texture thing, I think the layers might be a cool thing to try next.
And what a generous giveaway. This project has been a reward in itself :-)

This month's prompt was just what I needed, and you've inspired me to give backgrounds and layering a try.

These two photos of you are mesmerizing and allegorical.

Wonderful photos. I usually take pics of my face and look at the camera, this month I have tried to capture emotional states without showing my face completely... I could only publish two of them but I am happy with the results.

Hi Christy,
Your layering of images is very successful. I especially like the second piece! Great compo, textures, and mixed media type look. Your creativity is on a roll :)
