{in the picture} theme post: new perspective

Hey, where did the summer go? I can't believe it's September already, and time for another theme here at {In The Picture}. We are celebrating new perspectives over at Mortal Muses this month so I thought I would carry that theme over into our self-portrait project for a little fun. (If you don't know Mortal Muses, it's a photography collaborative that I'm involved in--we recently had a huge blog makeover--you can check us out here and on instagram @mortalmuses.)

This month, with Fall in the air and the kids back in school, let's try something new, shall we? Our optional theme for September is new perspective--trying to bring something different into your self-portraits. If you usually shoot with your DSLR, try shooting with your mobile phone, or better yet, pick up that old Polaroid camera...

{This shot didn't come out so great, but sharing it with you anyway!}

Or if you usually take your photos indoors, like me, why not try to get outside this month?

And if you find yourself constantly taking pictures of your hands or your eyes, try your whole face, or maybe your feet...

If you've been using a lot of color, try some black & white (or vice versa)...

And this might also be a good time to try out some creative cropping. Check out this inspiring post from Vivienne McMaster (you may remember her from one of our interviews earlier this year).

It's up to you to figure out what new perspective you want to bring to the project this month. I hope now that our summer vacations are over we'll get some more people back to playing along. We still had over 20 people link up in August, but I'd like to see more of you at the end of this month! I'm even thinking of doing a giveaway during the linky party, so make sure you come back on September 28 to link up for a chance to win! (and remember, our themes here are optional, so if something else is inspiring you this month, go for it!)

I'll be seeing you back here soon--I'm also getting the selfie photographer interviews started again after the summer break. I think you're going to like what I've got lined up for you. Hope to see you soon!

I'd happily trade my 'good enough... I guess' shots for your 'didn't come out so greats', U.M...

I have just come across you...a little bit late in the year but never mind! I have started to take selfies after taking a course by Vivienne as I think I look awful in photos...now I have some that I actually like of myself!!I would love to join in with this months theme and it would give me the impetus to get started again as I have had a very uninspiring summer creatively which is such a waste really.Looking forward to joining in.

I need this prompt--challenge.
I adore your faceless series.
As much as I like my own happy-jumping-leaping-twirling-bikini-clad-beach-shots.....I want to change my story just a bit. Bring in some deeper emotions....go black-n- white...create some moody mysterious stories.
I will look forward to this months new perspectives!
