It wasn't intentional, but somehow all of my self-portraits so far this year have been in black & white. Soooo, I thought it would be fun to see what you all come up with if I set you loose for a month of monochrome. Our optional theme for March will be "black & white".
There is something about a black & white photo that conveys a mood, doesn't it? I guess with all the color stripped away, it draws the viewer's attention more deeply to the emotion or message you are trying to share.
OK, so that's it for now. Remember the theme is optional, but it's kind of an easy one so I hope you all will try it. What you shoot and how you pose is up to you, but try to see what black & white will do for you in your self-portrait journey this month. I'll see you in our flickr pool and I'll be back here on the blog for our monthly linky party on March 30.
If you are new here you can join us at any time! Check out what you've missed so far over here.

Sounds like a great challenge-you certainly have made black and white work wonderfully. Love all of these you've created.
I love bw selfies...I look younger :) Haha.
I'm with Kathy . . . somehow they just seem to make the wrinkles fade away! Not to mention those gray hairs that just fade into the background. Black and white= Flattering.
Ahh, love black and white selfies. I love your photo on the ladder. Actually, I love all of them! Great theme for this month.
What a trip! I woke up thinking about my B&W photos and wondering how to do it with my DSLR. Now I'm on a mission. Thanks.
Sounds like a fun challenge. I'm all for softening the blow. :)

Horray! I think I'll try shooting in B/W SOOC rather than convert in post processing. So fun!
OK, this sounds like a fun challenge. I haven't shot in black and white in years and almost never convert in post-processing. I'll give it a go!
I hadn’t thought about the gray hair in black and white...I need to check that one out! Your pictures today are superb. I really do like the one against the fire escape and the one of you in bed. You do a fab job with your selfless. I feel like a real failure at them....but will keep trying so maybe I will get better. Happy Weekend...genie
Thanks for finding me on Flickr! I'm excited to join this journey...
love it - I have my first one already :)
great challenge and love your shots
I am such a sucker for b/w... there really is something special about it. I think we're just so 'used to' seeing everything in color, that b/w forces us to see things in a 'new' way... to really notice all the details (and as you've said, creates such wonderful dramatic mood, too). Awesome pieces (and idea), U.M.!
:)
Beautiful series of photographs Christy, and so perfect in black and white!
Love that last photo! It could be your album cover. :)
Love b&w as yes it softens the blow!! Looking forward to next months link up x
Fantastic B & W project and wonderful advise!

Another terrific capture. You do have an "eye"!
I've been remiss in posting self-portraits, but will post some black and white photos soon. I agree the black and white sometimes softens the facial features which makes me happy! Love your photos here!
I just LOVE your selfies! You're always so creative!
