52 photos project {just one picture}

It's week 35 over at the 52 Photos Project and we were asked to choose one of our favorite photos from the past year and share it. This was not an easy task, but here it is...

patience.
{self-portrait, taken with iPhone, processed with retro camera and iris}

I've been on a self-portrait journey this year, and this is one of 52 selfies that I committed to take at the beginning of 2011. Right now I'm at number 49...just three more to go by the first week in January. I honestly never thought I'd be able to complete this project and I am surprised by how much I've come to enjoy taking these portraits of myself....even daring to show my face sometimes. It's become a fun way to express myself and experiment with processing photos (especially on my iPhone!) So much so that I've been thinking about doing a selfie project again in 2012. I haven't decided if I'll go for 52 again, but I will come up with a number and strive to stick to it.

Here's where you come in! I am curious to know if any of you would be willing to join me in my 2012 self-portrait journey because I think I'll need a little inspiration to keep it going. I am considering hosting a project that would include a link-up here on my blog--once a week or perhaps once a month--where people could link up their self-portraits, visit each other's blogs and flickr streams, and inspire each other to keep going throughout the year. It would be casual, you pick your own number of self-portraits to complete for the year...be it 2 or 52. I'll probably work in some tips and interviews from self-portrait photographers as well.

I haven't fleshed out all the details and am not even sure that I'll actually host this project, but I would love to know if any of you even think you might be interested. You won't be committing to anything, but let me know in the comments today if you think it sounds like something you would consider. Thanks everyone!

YES!!! ~insert waving arms over my head and jumping up and down!~ Count me in!! I love a project involving selfies and the inspiration I draw from others involved in the same project!! My favorite part about self portraits is that I am always available, and since my passion is people portraiture I can alwaus show up for a photo shoot!! and I adore your favorite photo too!

Your choice is fantastic, love it
Love all the others also..would not have known which one to pick as the 'just one'
as to your question : it sounds like a great idea but it is not my cup of tea.. I would not know how and where to start and only like to take pics of others (people and things)
bonne chance!

great self-portrait and sounds like a fun project . . . maybe once a month? it would take me that long to take a photo of myself!

Yes, I would be interested - of course I have NO worldly idea of how to take a picture of myself. I had considered this with a group on flickr this year and just never got around to it. I think you might have to put up some tips for me first? haha

I'm so used to taking pictures of everything else but myself and like many don't really want to be in front of the camera now that I'm older, but this last year has been a huge journey for me and looking through the lens has taught me a great deal about life and myself, so perhaps I should include "me" in there somewhere. For me, I'm thinking once a month is a good start!

Ok, so I may be super late in saying this because I have been a terrible bloggy friend lately (and have not been making the rounds) but I love the new look of your space!! Love the photograph you chose for this prompt. Patience is something I strive for but is always slightly out of my grasp :). I am SO down for a "selfie" project for 2012, you just say the word.

I'm forever joining things and not having the staying power to make to the end. But yes, yes! Perhaps this time I'll make it.

I think it would be intriguing. I generally hate pictures of myself so it would be a fun challenge and different for a change as I generally take landscape and floral pictures etc...!

I remember this photo! I love it. I also love your idea of a selfies weekly blog prompt. I want to do this but I never remember to.

Beautiful photo! What an important lesson...I love the idea of self-portrait blog posts. I love your iphoneography. I have been trying to figure mine out since May. My favorite app still has to be instagram. I would so appreciate learning more techniques :)

As soon as I saw your post I thought, oh could I do 52 self portraits? I'm in!

I really do hope you keep this series going, U.M... it's brilliant. That being said, I'm the furthest thing from photogenic and I usually try stay on the other side-o-the camera. One or two of my selfs a year is about all I dare put anyone poor viewer through.

I love your selfie but I will admit it is my least favorite thing to photograph...I am always shocked by how I look. Don't know why it is always such a surprise but there it is:)

Love all your selfies and this one is just perfect!
The project sounds great. I'd love to say that I'm definitely in but self portraits and I are not very good friends! I hate to be in front of the camera. But maybe it's a good time to start challenging myself, at least taking some baby steps. I don't think I can do once a week but i can try once a month.

Not sure if people are ready to see soo many portraits of me and mostly I just wouldn't know how to make a picture of me fresh and interesting over and over again.

But then like Esra said, this could be a good way to push ourselves out of our comfort zones. Who knows we may come to love self portraits in the end?
I'll definitely be thinking about joining in :)

I am so interested because, I rarely take photos of myself so it is time that I learned to do it with some proficiency!! I am ready for the challenge if you decide to host it!

If it's not too late, count me in for the selfie project. I take so few and lousy shots w/ lenses pointed at me that this could be a form of art therapy w/out dropping $100/hour.

Your BB shots are fabulous. I like the borderless ones better (although the casual black frames would work nicely for a wall gallery) but don't diss the low contrasts, even if they're not your goal. They're great. Happy December!
