c'mon irene

I had the song C'mon Eileen in my head all weekend. Except the lyrics were changed to C'mon Irene. At one point I heard my Hub humming the tune aloud and I asked him if perhaps I had been singing the song and didn't realize it. He said no, he came up with it all on his own. I'll bet we weren't the only ones.

Anyway, the hurricane made landfall here in NYC this morning. I am happy to report that in my neighborhood, the highest natural point in Manhattan, we are safe from storm surge and all is well.

above sea level

I was a little worried about the wind because we live very close to the Hudson River and usually get some strong gusts during big storms, but it wasn't so bad. We just got a little stir crazy, staring out the windows at the rain for over 24 hours.

So we went out this afternoon to survey the damage.

Lots of fallen branches, but nothing too bad. And it looks like there was a run on potato chips in the local store.  Thanks for sparing us Irene. Hope everyone else out there was as lucky.

That's funny that you both had that song in our head. Glad the whole hurricane experience was better than you expected!

I'm glad everything was ok for you guys! And that you had a chance to get out today. Hopefully you don't need any chips. Looks like all the good ones are gone :)

I have had that song playing in my head too. Glad that her visit wasn't as awful as it could have been.

lots of measures taken out of precaution I guess..clean up time for some, humming tunes, refilling chips shelves and taking pictures ... life is back to normal

I'm thrilled to hear that you are doing well and that you only suffered from stir craziness.

It was sounding for a time like the aftermath would be apocalyptic - good to hear all is well with you.

Good to hear you came through the storm with no damage.

I had the same song running through my head yesterday. Just seemed appropriate.

Potato chips? Haha! Strange!

Glad you all stayed safe and dry. I don't think anyone really knew what to expect.

Very cool photo. I wonder how old this marker is?

Thanks so much for sharing at YSB Christy. I appreciate it!

Happy to hear you didn't get it too bad. I know you can get a little stir crazy with too much rain. But you made the rain look so pretty!

Ah Ha!!! When snow storms hit the south the bread and milk shelves go bare - - - I guess Hurricanes in NY empty the chips!! I always WONDERED about that. ;-)

Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as expected.Hmmmm... maybe your neighbors had the same idea as my daughter and her friends in Virginia and had a Hurricane party.

I'm glad it wasn't too horrible, but I know it's very scary during the storm.
