I took this photo the other day because I love this man's bright red pants. When I got home and looked at the picture it reminded me a little of something you might see at The Sartorialist, but not quite as cool. Nonetheless, I can dream.
Now, as per my usual style, I just snapped this photo, and did not ask this gentleman for permission. The Sartorialist on the other hand, often asks his subjects if he can take their photos. I think that's a lot easier to do that when you have a well-known blog. You know, he says to a stranger on the street: "Hey, can I take your picture?" The well-dressed stranger replies: "Uh....why?" He explains: "Why, I am The Sartorialist, I have a blog and...." And before he's even done explaining, the fashionable New Yorker is like: "Do you want me to pose, or just stand here....?" I found this video of The Sartorialist out on a shoot in New York City and there is actually a scene that plays out pretty much just like that. Hmmm...must be nice...
If you have a few minutes and you enjoy street photography you should check out the video. I especially like how you can see his eyes darting around as he hunts for the perfect fashionista to photograph. I know when I am out shooting on the street I am so tuned in to what is going on around me and who is walking towards me, constantly turning around looking for a moment to capture. But until "Urban Muser" becomes a household name, I won't be asking for permission. I'll stick to the classic furtive-style street shooting.

I can not take pictures of people on the street. I am too nervous. I can barely take pictures of squirrels without asking their permission.
Oh this is great - it'd be awesome if you could walk up to someone and say, well I'm the Urban Muser...don't you know me?

You could totally try that "I am the Urban Muser" thing. It just might work. My Dad had several pairs of these red trousers...You've got to have a big personality to carry them off. This guy appears to be "making it work"....Designers....

I get really nervous to take pictures of people on the street too which is probably why I drool over all of The Satorialists photos. They're so lovely! I think this one is just as good as any of his.
You already do great street photography, and this is a great shot, totally sartorialist. You just have to figure out a line. You know, tell them its for a school project or something. You have a great eye for it.

Great shot. When my boyfriend and I were in Italy, we noticed Italian men LOVE the red pants. Now, every time we see someone wearing them, we have to point it out to each other. I'm sending him a link to this post right now!

I think that furtive, undercover photography is highly under rated. It makes those pix you get that much more thrilling when you look back at them.
