On several of my morning walks with Willow this week I noticed the sunrise in a way that I have never really appreciated before. We live in Washington Heights, which is in northern Manhattan on the west side. As you might imagine, being on the west side of a kind of large city there are too many tall buildings in the way to get a true sunrise close to the eastern horizon. But since we are actually on the highest natural point in Manhattan, there are certain times of the year when the sun rises in just the right spot between the buildings so you can actually catch a glimpse. I shared one of these photos in my
Orange post last week. This next one I caught with my iPhone around 7:15 a.m. yesterday.

This block is a dead end that drops off several hundred feet down a huge cliff, hence the fence. When we turned around to walk back home our shadows were made extra long from the low rising sun.

Willow loved being this tall, especially with the little dog approaching us in the upper right corner of the photo.

Yep, low sun shots and high buildings make for some great shadow shots and photographs generally.
