It's Stay-cation Week, Times Two

Today marks the beginning of Kim Klassen's "Inspiration Stay-cation" week.  I am not sure exactly what she has in store for us, but it sounds like lots of creative learning and sharing.  Check out the stay-cation blog here if you think you'd like to join the fun, you know you want to...

Speaking of stay-cations, I decided to have some additional stay-cation adventures this week right here in NYC.  It's August.  I am not going on any real vacation this summer.  Time to start taking more advantage of all the city has to offer.  One of my favorite things to do (and if you ever visit New York, I highly recommend) is to take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry.  It's amazing.  It's a big, bright orange boat.  Beautiful views of downtown Manhattan.  Cool breezes.  And it's FREE.  Yup, free.

It helps that I had a destination on the other side.  My friend who lives there just had a baby and it was time for a visit.  But seriously, you could just take the ride, get off the boat when you get to Staten Island and take the next boat back to Manhattan. It's a great way to see some spectacular views.  Here are some of mine from today...

Lower Manhattan, on the way to SI this morning..

Lower Manhattan, on the way back to the city this afternoon...

Here' s the ferry, going the other way...

The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge...

The Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge...

And I guess I can't leave out Lady Liberty silhouetted in the late afternoon haze...

And in case you are wondering, the baby is adorable.

She is the recipient of the "Baby Surprise Jacket" that I labored over and blogged about a couple of months ago...

More NYC stay-cation updates as the week goes on (I hope!)

What beautiful shots of the city. I'm just going to have to stand by and watch stay-cation. I'm running a mile a minute right now and I'll have to calm down later. :)

What a perfect way to spend a day. Thanks for sharing your amazing photos. I feel a bit as if I've been on a trip without ever leaving the house.

It's been a while since I've visited - you've been a busy blogger! (and photographer)

Your images are great - I'm going to be in NYC this weekend for Blogher - you've made me want to ferry back and forth all day.

I would love to take that ferry! Have seen it in movies and it looks so nice. Lovely shots of the city, hope to visit your town in the future :-) A beautiful jacket you have made for the little one, and a sweet photo of the baby.

Great pictures! I am loving the jacket too!!! I am currently working on the hoodie you posted about last week. Now I think I need the pattern for the jacket. You're making me work to hard. :-)

I love the SI Ferry. It's such a fun trip. My daughter really enjoys the bright orangeness of the ships. :)

Gorgeous photos. Those are some truly fantastic shots of downtown. And I'm in love with the baby photo.
