"AT THE SAME MOMENT" painted in huge red enamel letters is the work of artist Lawrence Weiner. This elusive and mysterious sentiment stays with me temporarily. I am unsure of the artist's intent behind this statement or why it is here on a pier in the middle of the Hudson River. Most of the people around me are oblivious to it, but not me. It provokes thoughts of what else is happening in this city and around the world at the same moment as I stand here on this boat. Moments of Joy. Fear. Sadness. Crisis. Excitement. Anger. Elation. Simultaneously, my life feels very important and also quite insignificant.

I am always initially dismissive over artwork like this, somehow it seems too easy. But then it gets me thinking and doing all the things it is supposed to do and I start admiring something that is both easy and effective.

I love that you noticed this! Although I think about things like this fairly often, I doubt if seeing it written out like that would have struck me -- my own concerns would have taken precedence at the time :)
